USGS Updates Earthquake Hazard Map

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Geological Survey updates its national seismic hazard map for the first time since 2008, listing parts of the Ozarks with low to moderate projections of potential hazards.

The USGS projections take into account research from the earthquake and Tsunami in Japan as well as the earthquake in Virginia, both occurring in 2011.

Sixteen states have the highest risk of potential earthquakes, including Missouri, Arkansas, and Illinois.
