SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Greene County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Patterson says the actions of a Springfield Police Officer shooting an unarmed man last May is not a justifiable use of deadly force by a law enforcement officer.
On May 9, Officer Jason Shuck shot Eric Butts in the buttocks after he ran away from the officer. According to authorities, Butts was panhandling near the Walmart Neighborhood Market on Glenstone Avenue and also had a warrant out for his arrest.
According to online court records, Officer Shuck is charged with a Class A misdemeanor of third-degree assault. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday August 11.
