Koster Endorses ‘Right to Farm’ Amendment

Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster announces his support for Constitutional Amendment #1, also known as the “Right to Farm” amendment.

Koster says the amendment will ensure agricultural production in Missouri is economically competitive with other states across the country…

Missouri Farm Bureau President Blake Hurst, Missouri Farmers Care Chairman Don Nikodim and other agricultural leaders joined Koster at a press conference in support of the amendment, which voters will decide in the August 5th election.

A press release issued by Missouri Farm Bureau goes on to state:

“Unfortunately there is misinformation being spread about Amendment #1. Having Attorney General Koster’s support will help communicate that this amendment is about ensuring the future economic viability of Missouri’s family farmers and ranchers and continuing to provide consumers food choices,” Hurst and Nikodim agreed.

Amendment #1 is on the Aug. 5, 2014 ballot and reads in its entirety as follows: “That agriculture which provides food, energy, health benefits, and security is the foundation and stabilizing force of Missouri’s economy. To protect this vital sector ofMissouri’s economy, the right of farmers and ranchers to engage in farming and ranching practices shall be forever guaranteed in this state, subject to duly authorized powers, if any, conferred by article VI of the Constitution of Missouri.”
