The official debut of the Big Cedar Lodge Legends of Golf Tournament finds a tie on top of the leaderboard after a rainy first round.
Play got underway as scheduled with Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Lee Trevino, and Mike Hill getting the tournament underway at Top of the Rock. However play was halted an hour into the round then was halted a second time for three hours just after Noon.
When play finally resumed in the afternoon, the players opening on the Buffalo Ridge Course dominated the top of the Champions Division leaderboard as the teams of Fred Funk and Jeff Sluman along with Russ Cochran and Kenny Perry shot an opening round 10 under par 61 to claim a one stroke lead over two other teams. The top 13 teams all played at Buffalo Ridge while the top finishers at Top of the Rock were the teams of Andy North and Tom Watson along with Nick Faldo and Eduardo Romero who shot five under par.
Meanwhile in the Legends Division, Bruce Fleisher and Larry Nelson rolled out to a nine under par 62 at Buffalo Ridge for a four shot lead. The teams of Nicklaus/Player along with Trevino/Hill were part of a three way tie for fifth as the low scorers at Top of the Rock.
The players will switch courses tomorrow with the final round of the tournament scheduled for Top of the Rock.
