New Sales Tax Proposal to be Discussed

thumb_87023fc6990198dHARRISON, Ark. – A new half-percent sales tax proposal will be discussed by a general committee this week in Harrison.

This proposal differs from the last one in that no city money would be used for a special election and the money would only be allocated to the police and fire departments.

Harrison voters have turned down three sales tax proposals in four years, including the most recent election last April, where city officials fell under scrutiny for spending city dollars to cover the election.

Harrison Police Chief Paul Woodruff says no city money would be spent if the proposal would appear on a ballot.

The topic will be in talks before the Harrison City Council meeting on Thursday night.
