In 1983 the Forsyth Alumni Association established the RDMSF and made the first scholarship award in 1985. Since that time the association has awarded approximately $20,000 in scholarships to Forsyth graduates. When the alumni association established the RDMSF their goal was to grow the fund balance to $50,000.
Through fundraisers, like the OMT, and private donations they reached this goal; however, the fund has not increased in value since that time. For the last several years the scholarship award has been approximately $1000. Unfortunately, over the past 15 years the annual cost of higher education has increased by a staggering 40% while the RDMSF award has remained relatively flat.
In an effort to increase the future scholarship amount, and grow the account in an attempt to keep up with the ever-increasing cost of college, the board of directors is seeking additional fundraising sources this year.
To that end; on Sunday June 29th, 2014, the RDMSF will host a sprint distance triathlon featuring a 400-meter open water swim in Swan Creek, a 20K bike leg, and a 5K run on the city nature trail. The race will begin and finish at Shadowrock Park in Forsyth. Our goal is to attract 70 participants. Ozark Racing Systems will provide course and timing services. All proceeds from this event will benefit the RDMSF.
Your business can help make this event a success. We are soliciting monetary donations to offset the fees associated with this event which include: race timing, t-shirts, prizes, and advertising. Businesses who support this endeavor are welcome to provide promotional materials which will be included in the event bag each participant will receive. Supporting businesses will also have their logo included on the back of the event t-shirt.
Thank you for your time in considering this worthwhile event and in helping future Forsyth graduates achieve the goal of a higher education.
